Total Overwhelm. Time to Unplug?

Tina, Lauren & Cassie Season 1 Episode 8

Send us a text

This episode was recorded some time ago, but it now carries even deeper meaning in light of the tragic news of Charlie Kirk’s murder yesterday.

In this episode, we dive into why so many of us are running on empty right now. From all the mixed messages about health and politics to the everyday pressure of just keeping up, it’s no wonder we’re all feeling overwhelmed. Add in the constant scroll of tech and news, and it’s a recipe for total brain-fry.

We share some honest stories from the past few years, including how COVID messed with our sense of trust (in ourselves, in the world, and definitely in the government). We also unpack the wild world of misinformation, and why it’s so important to tune out the noise and choose what we let into our brains.

There’s a bit of a reality check in here but also a heap of hope. Because if we’ve learned anything, it’s that we’re all more resilient than we realise.

This episode is dedicated to the memory of Charlie Kirk, in honour of his voice in the fight for free speech. Rest in Peace Charlie. You'll be truly missed across the world.

MIC3:

So basically,

MIC2:

I think we've got to a point in time in society where everyone is. Just fucking tired of everything. We don't know. We are being told, take this, don't take that, do this. Don't do that. Um. Is Trump good? No Trump's bad. Is pharmaceuticals good? Oh, no, it's not good. Oh, take herbs be a homesteader. Seriously, like I feel like moms are momming and going to work running businesses. Dads are, trying to provide, they're stressed out. They, trying to make sure their wives are right, the kids are right, do their thing. Everyone is literally stretched, life in itself is fast-paced. We're all got this little tiny fricking contraction in our hand.

MIC3:

That's like

MIC1:

A

MIC2:

24 7. We are, answerable. People are text me, why me fucking text me back. You, there's emails, there's so much noise. You are driving in the car and you connect to your phone, to your freaking car. Even you can't just drive to work without being contactable because everyone's like, oh no, I know you have Bluetooth. can send you a message. Oh, you saw it.

MIC3:

Sorry.

MIC2:

But you know, like it's stressful. We are in our wits end. We. Uh, humans have never been under so much pressure from society, from technology, from every which way, but loose. There's so much, as Lauren was saying, there's so much information on the internet. Facebook, Instagram. Uh, every platform, this person's saying that. And you go, oh yeah, that makes sense. And then you see someone else saying the opposite, oh shit, that makes sense.

MIC3:

You say, how do you know? Which way do you go? So many times, do you go to, like, you were trying to talk to someone about something like we just did it before, right? That with the, um, the video that you shared? Yeah. And it's like, oh, where did I share it? It could be Messenger, it could be email, be text, could be Instagram, could be. Like there's literally that many ways

MIC2:

contacting someone. Yeah. Yeah.

MIC3:

don't even know where you've sent something.

MIC2:

someone. Yeah, absolutely. And I don't even like social

MIC3:

It's total overwhelm.

MIC2:

I guess this is one of the reasons why we even started this. To touch on many subjects. Some people are gonna agree, some people are not. Some people are going, oh yeah, maybe that makes sense. And other people are like, oh, that makes no sense at all. It doesn't matter. We are just talking about subjects that people may or may not resonate with, or, I are just so fucking confused. If we can shine a light on some subjects and down the track. We want to get experts in as well as we are not experts on, well,

MIC3:

Speak for yourself.

MIC2:

yeah, actually I was, not to say Tina's an expert in skincare.

MIC3:

I was joking. I was joking. I'm an expert on nothing. I know I'm passionate about certain topics, but I'm an expert on nothing. What I'm saying though,

MIC2:

We are just coming from a place of, we are just researching, this is what we've found, this is what we've experienced, and we want people to go, oh, thank God someone's talking about it. And, and if we can help people navigate this whole matrix or as my kids say, simulation.

MIC3:

Oh, do they? We say matrix. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We say matrix. We're all about matrix,

MIC2:

Whatever that is

MIC3:

but what do we do about it? This is the thing, because there is so much information out there, and if we're adding to that information over, we are, but we could be adding the wrong information. This is just our opinion.

MIC2:

talk about it, we look into it, we shed light on it. And collectively as a human race, we ask questions and we are not just gonna believe what we are fed anymore or,

MIC3:

or, and create boundaries. Absolutely. You know, um, actually I'm a huge fan of Tony Robbins. He says, don't let the information find you. You seek the information you require. Mm-hmm. So don't wake up in the morning and look at your phone and whatever news or whatever notifications are there, wake up and be. Like intentional mm-hmm. About what you say. Oh, that's good advice. Mm. Yeah. But you could, if you are passionate about something, like there's many topics I am, say I'll research the ones that, Um, confirm my, what I'm thinking. I won't go researching the things that I don't agree with. Echo chamber. Yeah. So, and I could be wrong. I could be wrong, but I'm not gonna go researching something. I don't, I'm pretty much right about everything. No, no. Because I am the biggest back flipper too. Like there's things that I was so passionate about and was one eye about only a few years ago. Several things that I've. Now back flipped on. Well that means that you are not someone that just researches what you believe in you, not someone who lives lives in echo chambers. Maybe I'm not. And you can actually get varied opinions. Yeah. And then reassess where you come from. Yeah. So maybe I do, our episode was a perfect example. Yeah. Yeah. Home.

MIC2:

And you know what, that's what I love about us girls.'cause we make each other think like Tina, remember years ago when I said about Trump? And you like,

MIC3:

Oh, I remember. Oh, sorry. We were shocked. We were shocked.

MIC2:

were almost

MIC3:

You were almost like you were a Trumpy and we, I was, my jaw dropped. Having said that, my husband was already a Trumpy and I was Was he? Yeah, he was. Oh, I didn't know that. He was from day one and then, but I didn't listen to him.

MIC2:

he

MIC1:

It wasn't

MIC3:

until my be

MIC1:

said it

MIC2:

and I was like.

MIC3:

Okay, well, I respect her opinion, and so if she's on this path, then maybe I need to actually have a think about it. I was just shocked. Absolutely shocked. And she just dropped that bomb shell and went bed. It

MIC2:

Yeah.

MIC3:

we sat there like, did she just say that? Yeah. She doesn't like Obama and she likes Trump. And we were just like, and what have we learned

MIC2:

since? Oh, my, I would,

MIC3:

again, I don't have a. Strong opinion on that sort of stuff. I'm not a Trumpy or I'm not not a Trumpy.

MIC2:

sense?

MIC3:

Yeah, totally. I don't know enough about it to have an opinion about it at all. Yeah, fair and

MIC2:

not saying he's the be all end all, I'm just saying out of every one that's,

MIC3:

but you got us thinking

MIC2:

Yeah. Yeah. He's not perfect. No, he is not. Neither am I. No, no one.

MIC3:

Oh, no one is the general

MIC2:

concept of him and there's so much misinformation, fake media, all that stuff. Um, if you look into him and, and the trueness of what he's trying to achieve, just skip all the bullshit and the fake media. He, the, the man's.

MIC3:

He's got some really good morals and some of his things and his beliefs and things really, do I align with mine? I think he's a bit of a lunatic, but I think you have to be Yeah. To do that job, to put yourself on the line like that. Mm-hmm. You know, he, he doesn't have to do that. No, he doesn't.

MIC3-1:

Oh, we just had a little private joke. We can, we cannot share. So, and anyway, I don't know how we got onto Trump. I think it was because, um Oh yeah, because you might have believed one thing and we believe another, but then we might change, we might do a complete switch. We might, you

MIC2-1:

know what? If

MIC3-1:

what? Research,

MIC2-1:

I may even get proof wrong down the track, I don't know. But isn't the whole point to just.

MIC3-1:

Well, you're

MIC2-1:

You look into different things when I, the same as Lauren was saying before, I've thought one thing and thought strongly about it and whatever, and through my journey of different things, I've learned to stand back now and just go, you know what? Oh, I'm gonna question shit. I don't believe everything I'm told. We need to ask

MIC3-1:

proud to admit that they were wrong, the whole last five years was a perfect example of that. Mm-hmm. Proof in their face. Mm-hmm. And yet we'll dig their heels in even harder. Yeah.

MIC2-1:

And do you know what I've done? And it's the best thing I've ever done. I mean there's a lot to the background of everything in terms of what's happened to me in the last couple of years. But I took myself out of sort of everything, put myself in a cave to a, to a certain degree, um,'cause I was re rebuilding my life and a lot was going on, but I. Didn't watch mainstream media. Yeah, I didn't watch mainstream shows. I didn't even rego, I, I would not have known people told me, oh, what about what happened in Thailand? I'm like, what happened in Thailand?

MIC3-1:

Mm. I'm the same

MIC2-1:

I had to take myself out of everything. I took myself out of the programming and the things that's put in front of us constantly to sort of create a narrative and brainwash us to a degree. Then I could open up and actually just look at the things and question things. That were raw and out there instead of media and shows and programming and all that stuff. That really opens your mind.

MIC3-1:

that's, you did exactly what Tony me says to do. Yeah. You stopped allowing the news to find you and you

MIC2-1:

saw out the news. Absolutely.

MIC3-1:

So you just blocked Which I mean, oh my God, how many people say, oh, I saw it on today. Tonight. Oh, it must be true. I saw it on the news. Yeah, read it in the newspaper. Must be true. Yeah. I just don't understand that every night sitting down and watching the news, or every day reading the paper, it's horrible. Yeah. Why would you put yourself through that? No, you gotta

MIC2-1:

protect yourself. I can't that shit. I'm a very down, yeah. I actually am a very empathetic person that shit breaks me.

MIC3-1:

And you can't do anything about it. If there was something we could do to help, we would, but if we can't do anything about it, why watch it your

MIC2-1:

Absolutely, the thing that I can do is protect my energy and just. Do what I can do in little ways in, in terms of my mental health and looking after myself. So I'm there for my kids and my friends and being kind to others and all those sorts of things. It, it all the other stuff. If I was watching it, it depleted me. It made me sad. It even made me feel like, why the fuck am I in this fucked up world? Like what's the point? And that's a

MIC3-1:

a terrible mentality. The sad thing is a lot of that mainstream media stuff is filtering in through Instagram and TikTok and the kids seeing it as well. They don't have to sit there and watch the news to know that some kid got ran over a Yeah, because, you know what I mean? Like it's, when we were kids, you just turn the TV off, or if your parents didn't want you to know it, you just turn the TV off. But we can't stop it now. It's everywhere.

MIC2-1:

but remember there was like maybe. Five, 10 minutes of bad shit at the beginning of the news. And then they had lovely

MIC3-1:

They did.

MIC2-1:

And they had all these little features and and

MIC3-1:

when people got up and went, made a cup of tea though, they said,'cause no one wants to know that. But I used to like it. There was always a good news story, wasn't there? Good news. Oh, totally.

MIC2-1:

Oh, totally. Now it's

MIC3-1:

there is a lot of good news stories. There is so many good things happening in the world. So many, but we don't hear about it, and we don't celebrate it. We don't care about it. It's all the doom stuff, but there's so much great stuff

MIC2-1:

why?'cause they're trying to keep us stressed out, sick, unhealthy.

MIC3-1:

it lower, it lowers our vibration, it lowers our energy, it keeps us sick, it

MIC2-1:

keeps us

MIC3-1:

keeps us chained to So everyone needs to turn the news off and not buy the papers news. Yeah.

MIC2-1:

thing. Seriously. Best thing I've ever

MIC3-1:

I mean, when we get, I think this is why we have such a good time when we get together, because we. We never even turn the TV on. We never sit watch tv. We never do.

MIC2-1:

we don't talk

MIC3-1:

that. We just, and we don't talk about what we saw on the news.'cause none of us watch it. We don't like, I didn't even know the Pope died. I was like, two weeks later, someone told me the Pope died. I'm like, oh, I did not hear that. I didn't know that. I know I'm a Christian. Well, he's a Catholic. Same, same, same. But yeah. Well, no. But yes, well, the Christians aren't so into the Pope, like the Catholics I mean, we believe in the Pope. He was a real man. Yeah. Like,

MIC1-1:

not a freaking apparition,

MIC2-1:

so that's a, it wasn't a thing. Yeah. So I didn't know that. Loz and I both got brought up. Very

MIC3-1:

Yeah, very Christian and not talking about the Pope ever.

MIC2-1:

Yeah, that's right. I know

MIC3-1:

that. Christians didn't have Pope in there. There. No, that's Catholic. So interesting. Yeah. That even, yeah, which I was brought up neither. I know.

MIC2-1:

Yeah, that's right.

MIC3-1:

Yeah, that's right. That's true. Don't We will do it. We will do it. A whole episode on that

MIC2-1:

And the Vatican, well, that's another episode.

MIC3-1:

Yeah. You the, uh, elites

MIC1-1:

run the world?

MIC2-1:

Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.

MIC3-1:

Oh, you crazy conspiracy

MIC1-1:

Oh my God.

MIC3-1:

Theories.

MIC1-1:

until it becomes fact.

MIC3-1:

questions, actually. Conspiracy like people think, like the word conspiracy is being made out to be such a dirty word now, but people have been conspiring to do bad in the world since the dawn of time. Yeah. A conspiracy is people conspiring, but it's taken on a different meaning. Yeah. We are not like that. Right. So to be a conspiracy theorist. Well, we do have a theory that some evil bastards are conspiring to do a certain thing to humanity. Mm-hmm. So therefore, yes, I am a proud conspiracy theorist. I am proud too, and science is based on theory, so don't tell me to follow the science because. That's based on theory. Mm. And the theory is that there are conspiring evil fuckers out there, and that's her theory. So anyway. Next,

MIC2-1:

next, but

MIC3-1:

tell us what you really think.

MIC2-1:

but do you know what I love? And I've said this before and I'll say it again. Do you know what was very hilarious to me? Pre COVID. What would happen? You'd have a good Aussie barbecue. Everyone sits around with their beers. Oh, they're, fucking government. They're all out to screw us over. Yes.

MIC3-1:

Yes. Across And they

MIC2-1:

tell us bullshit. And then COVID came in. oh, the government is telling us didn't

MIC3-1:

do, do what they say.

MIC2-1:

and get. And everyone's got, oh, no, no. The the government's saying that we, we better do what the

MIC3-1:

That's true, serious. Everyone used to hate the government.

MIC2-1:

you

MIC3-1:

And if you don't believe in them, well, you're a conspiracy theorist. Well, hang on.

MIC2-1:

better. Yeah.

MIC3-1:

You were all conspiracy theorist in that back barbecue five years ago.

MIC2-1:

hang on. The Aussie Way

MIC3-1:

was like,

MIC2-1:

like, you watch all the clip and they're like. Oh yeah. And the good Aussie way. We, we just do it the back our way. We

MIC3-1:

ler. We come each

MIC2-1:

other's backs. We, we stand up for what we believe in government, this and that, and da da da. And then this came in and suddenly

MIC3-1:

we

MIC2-1:

everyone, we stabbed

MIC3-1:

each other's backs. crazy time. Suddenly. Yep.

MIC2-1:

We've always questioned it. This is the Aussie way. We're going, this is not okay. They're negating our rights. They bring in laws that we didn't know about under our noses without us voting. And then we are told we are conspiracy theorists and. Don't believe them and shun them and persecute them. And like Lauren, you can't go to work where, when, where is the Aussieness we used to, um. We just admire that we all had our own perspectives, but we all stood shoulder to shoulder our grandfathers and Nanas and, and whatever went to war. And they fought for this country for our right, for our freedom, for our rights to say, you know what, mate? I might not do what you do, but I stand with

MIC3-1:

you. Yeah. It's a common enemy.

MIC2-1:

all this shit and now we are all fighting with each other and this one's going believe everything they say. And we are saying maybe not and but we are going. It's okay if you disagree, but let's just have our freedom as Aussies to go. You know what?

MIC3-1:

It's okay to disagree. It's okay to disagree. Agree to disagree. It's okay. And

MIC2-1:

so many subjects. That are taboo or whatever, and if you stand up and say something, you're a nutcase or you're a hippie, or you're a anti miner, or

MIC3-1:

on purpose.

MIC2-1:

whatever. Yeah. To, so,

MIC3-1:

know, at the very beginning of COVID, Harvard University did a study on how best to get people to

MIC2-1:

conquer and divide.

MIC3-1:

Yeah. And it was guilt dividing congress. No. Guilt was the number one that come out of the study. Oh, right. Guilt people. Yeah. Into compliance. Ah. And if you look through the whole last five years, yeah, that's exactly what I did. Yeah. And that guilt then caused shame and people pointing the finger and it, it was just a follow on effect. But there's a published study that you can read today about how to best get people to comply and the number one thing is guilt. Well, it worked. Yeah. It's such a crazy time. I think it's just a, well, no, we didn't comply. Do you look at it as just a glitch or like a little blip in our, I think it's great life.

MIC2-1:

I do, you know what? I actually

MIC3-1:

think that it's, it is going to create a much better time in the future. I'm very optimistic about better times. Are you guys all very so, and it was easy to be very pessimistic and be very. Down and, and I've been there. Yeah. But I don't think I've ever felt so optimistic about the future. Yeah. About the younger kids coming through. Yep. Um, the research that is available out there, um, I'm hearing statistics that. Uh, less people ever are taking drugs or drinking alcohol than ever before. Yep. There's all this great stuff that's like, there's a turnaround. For sure. There is. And I feel really hopeful and really optimistic and really inspired.

MIC2-1:

there is a lot of unrest in the world.

MIC3-1:

Then there's always been unrest.

MIC2-1:

about. Yeah. I hear people talk about, the new Earth. The new earth to me, I feel like is suddenly mankind has got to a point. We're on the brink. We've been doing wars for how long we've tried this. We're trying to, people are starting to question stuff. People are learning things through, through That never happened.

MIC3-1:

They had the last five years not happen

MIC2-1:

We we That's what

MIC3-1:

that's what I'm saying. True. It

MIC2-1:

needed to happen.

MIC3-1:

because we were also in la la land. We were comfortable. We were so weren't we comfortable? And it goes back to that. Hard times. Mm-hmm. Create good men. Mm-hmm. Good men create soft times and soft times create hard, uh, soft, soft men, men create hard times and, you know, they talk about the seasons of life and you know it throughout our whole life, we have a summer, autumn, winter and spring. And I, I think we're coming out of the winter. Yeah. I do too. At for

MIC2-1:

yeah. And like on a scale that we've never seen before. Like they say, there's people. Quitting jobs, relationships ending, there's so much unrest. This is a human psyche of, I feel like people are growing and asking questions and going, this doesn't make sense. And also going, how controlled are we? How programmed have we been? You know,

MIC3-1:

The blinkers are coming off, the

MIC2-1:

ve the veil has slipped, the masks coming off. Even people that are. Maybe very cynical and maybe very programmed are even starting to go, you know what, yeah. Maybe they've got a point.

MIC3-1:

That's actually awesome, isn't it? I think it's, I think it, it's great and it had to happen. Yeah.

MIC3-2:

What do we do with all the information that's out there? I mean, how do you filter it. Take what you need and leave what you don't. You can't just sit there and absorb. Okay. That's how I feel. Like you're scrolling. And scrolling. Yeah.

MIC2-2:

The doo don't, the doom scroll. The doom scrolling is

MIC3-2:

allowing news to find. So if you want to find something out, go seek

MIC2-2:

Seek. But

MIC3-2:

may stumble across something that's not true. How do you know? Well, you've gotta use your own intuition. Intuition and personal experience and see, you know, whatever backs it up or

MIC2-2:

yeah. I think from through my journey, your own

MIC3-2:

intelligence

MIC2-2:

basically, don't

MIC3-2:

basically, don't you? Does it feel right?

MIC2-2:

My awakening, maybe, Your intuition grew very strong through a lot of adversity and. You know, getting in touch with your pineal gland and spiritual things that's happened to me. It blows your mind. Once you open that up, you start to get a massive intuition block out

MIC3-2:

out all the other noise though? And there's so

MIC2-2:

so you do and trust yourself. But then also with that lot clear messages come through where you just know. That's not right. And that is, but not always. I'm not saying I'm some guru or anything now, but I do. Yeah. I am

MIC3-2:

The guru

MIC2-2:

far from. But anyway, you do learn to filter a lot more once that happens. It's just, it's, it's hard to explain, but Yeah. Yeah. Um.

MIC3-2:

The last five years our world being so off kilter and we were talking about how people are really coming away. So I think it's like, when you're sick, you come down with a cold. After that cold, you're stronger, you're better. You've built your immunity. We are all stronger for it. But that goes with, um, like you said, your spiritual journey as well. Like you've, you've gotta get in down and dirty to build the muscle to be stronger and come out. Better. Right? Can't have a rainbow unless there's rain. Boom.

MIC2-2:

burst.

MIC3-2:

quote for the day

MIC2-2:

Love it.

MIC3-2:

stole it from someone else. It's not my quote, but literally, how beautiful is a rainbow?

MIC2-2:

You're like a freaking oracle. You just crack that shit out. Oh, I know. I actually

MIC3-2:

somebody said it to me once and I just love it and I do use it all the time now.'cause it's so true. Because you cannot have a rainbow unless there has been rain.

MIC2-2:

It is Right.

MIC3-2:

So. Then even building your muscle in the gym, you are putting that muscle under stress.

MIC2-2:

You cannot

MIC3-2:

build it stronger mm-hmm. Without stressing it. Mm-hmm. And it's the same for our mental health, our physical health, the health of the world,

MIC2-2:

the society.

MIC3-2:

Mm-hmm. If you, if everything's so hy, everyone loses the muscle and it's just become weak. Mm-hmm. But you're saying it's like a big great big giant cold and you get sick and then you get better and then you build up your immune system. Yeah. You're stronger. But what if nobody's doing it properly and they're all taking lots of pills?

MIC2-2:

Well, and

MIC3-2:

the problem.

MIC2-2:

Yeah.

MIC1-2:

The

MIC3-2:

So what if the world

MIC2-2:

Does that, yeah. Well, and they do. I

MIC3-2:

and basically, I feel like the news is the pharmaceuticals. That's, oh my gosh, I'm having, is it an epiphany? The news. The news is the drug. Yeah. Yep. The government is the doctor. So turn off the news people. Stop taking the drugs, build up

MIC2-2:

your immunity,

MIC3-2:

immune system. Boom.

This episode is dedicated to the memory of Charlie Kirk. I started listening to Charlie in 2020 and loved everything that he stood for. Freedom of Speech the World, um, is a better place. Having had you in it, our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family. And everyone who is feeling the weight of what occurred yesterday. May you rest in peace, Charlie
